The latest iterations of the BitDefender lineup of security products, designed to play nice with the most recent version of the Windows client, are now available for download as trial versions and for purchase. BitDefender Total Security 2010, BitDefender Antivirus 2010 and BitDefender Internet Security 2010 are all up for grabs, launched today, August 17th, 2009, all three featuring the Windows 7 Ready logo. While not sporting the “Compatible with Windows 7” logo, the new BitDefender security solution lineup does indeed come with support for Windows 7, which was released to manufacturing on July 22nd, 2009.

“With the optimized scanning, active virus control, our first-ever user profile and other enhancements included in BitDefender 2010, we’re able to offer consumers security solutions with superior protection and increased speed to keep up with the rapidly growing rate of viruses and other e-threats,” revealed Vince Hwang, BitDefender global director, Product Management.

According to the antivirus maker, BitDefender 2010 is designed to offer users optimized scanning capabilities as well as Active Virus Control, complemented by usage profiles. In addition, BitDefender 2010 comes to the table with components that have become synonymous with modern security solutions, such as proactive protection and system maintenance and backup capabilities.

Standing out among the standard features are Active Virus Control and Usage Profiles. With Active Virus Control, BitDefender attempts to offer users heuristics technology set up to detect malicious code by monitoring applications and flagging malware-like actions. Usage Profiles has been introduced in order to help end users tailor the security solution to their immediate needs, and primary activities of the machine BitDefender is set up to protect. In this context, users will be able to select between Typical, Parent, and Gamer profiles for BitDefender 2010.

The security outfit revealed that “other BitDefender Total Security 2010 enhancements include:

- Enhanced Usability: In addition to the existing Basic and Advanced views, the BitDefender 2010 dashboard now features a new “Simple View” to better accommodate users with different levels of PC knowledge.

- Intrusion Detection: BitDefender detects and blocks attempts to change critical system files or registry entries and warns about attacks performed by code injection (DLL injection).

- Increased Parental Control: The Parental Control module features a newly added reporting system allowing parents to view which websites their children visit. Parents’ monitoring activity is made more efficient, as they can receive e-mail alerts concerning each child’s activity on the Internet.

- Application Time Control: This feature provides parents with the ability to set specific time intervals for which their children are allowed to use certain applications.

- Increased In-Product Technical Support: Users can get answers to the most common product questions or contact technical support directly from the product using its easy-to-use self-service module.”
